What Is Lung Cancer Screening?

Lung cancer screening is a quick, painless imaging test that uses a low-dose CT (LDCT) scan to detect signs of lung cancer in people who are at higher risk, but who may not yet show symptoms.

This type of CT scan uses significantly less radiation than a traditional scan while still providing clear, detailed images of your lungs.

Who Should Be Screened?

Lung cancer screening is recommended for people who meet all of the following criteria:

• Are 50 to 80 years old
• Have a history of 20 pack-years or more (e.g., 1 pack a day for 20 years, or 2 packs a day for 10 years)
• Are a current smoker or have quit within the last 15 years
• Have no current signs or symptoms of lung cancer
