Whiteville, NC – Columbus Regional Healthcare System recently awarded five (5) $1,000 scholarships to HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) students who would like a future in the healthcare industry. Each student completed a second-level Health Occupation Class at their High School. This year’s recipients are April Huggins and MacKenzie Helms (Whiteville High School), Molly Greene (South Columbus High School), Serenity Jackson, and Coleen West (West Columbus High School).
“We are very excited to be able to offer scholarships to this exemplary group of students. It takes
a special person to be called into the healthcare field. We know they will do well and hope to see them in the halls of Columbus Regional one day,” said Jason Beck, CRHS CEO.
April Huggins is the daughter of Wendy Best and Matthew Huggins. She will be attending Southeastern Community College to pursue her nursing degree.
MacKenzie Helms is the daughter of Nicole and Michael Helms. She will be attending Southeastern Community College where she plans to study phlebotomy and continue her studies to become a nurse.
Molly Greene is the daughter of Shannon Christmas and Van Greene. She is planning to attend Southeastern Community College to study Nursing, with the long-term goal of becoming a certified nurse anesthetist.
Serenity Jackson is the daughter of Toni Jackson. She will be attending Southeastern Community College to study nursing.
Coleen West is the daughter of Amanda Thompson Douglas and James Matthew West. She will be attending Southeastern Community College to study nursing. Columbus Regional Healthcare System has offered these scholarships since 1997.
The scholarships are funded by the CRHS Foundation, the CRHS Auxiliary, CRHS Nursing and Columbus Regional Healthcare System.
