Southeast Primary Care, part of the Columbus Regional Healthcare System physician network, is pleased to announce the arrival of Peggy Hill Newman, FNP-C to their practice on Tuesday, May 26, 2014.
Newman is a graduate of Whiteville High School, Southeastern Community College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors. She received a Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner, from Indiana University.
She began in the medical profession as a Registered Nurse by working in Intensive Care Units (ICU) — both trauma, as well as cardiovascular. She took the opportunity to continue this patient care in the Cardiovascular and Thoracic ICU unit at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. It was during this time that Peggy decided to further her education, and she subsequently entered Indiana University.
Newman is ANCC-board certified (American Nurses Credentialing Center) in Family Practice and has enjoyed many years of Family Practice Medicine. She participated in a cardiology “total immersion” and developed protocols for lipid (cholesterol) management for a Medical Group in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Peggy then entered Internal Medicine, where she enjoyed caring for all aspects of adult medicine including management of Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Thyroid dysfunction, Coronary Artery Disease, Congestive Heart Failure, Acute Renal Failure, and other aspects of adult medicine.
At this time, Peggy was granted privileges at a local hospital, assisting the Internist with hospital admissions and discharges and further management of these patients in a compassionate manner. Her philosophy is that every person — including patients, their families and their friends — should be treated with compassion and empathy.
She returns to Whiteville from White Lake Family Practice, a practice she opened in 2010 and then merged with Southeastern Regional Medical Center in 2011. There she served as the sole provider, where the emphasis was on family and internal medicine, as well as cardiology.
Newman is married to Jim Newman, a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, who is a veteran of Vietnam and Desert Storm. They have two children and three grandchildren.
She enjoys participating in medical missions. Her most recent trip was to the Dominican Republic. Other special interests include family activities, reading (voraciously), singing (choir and solo), canning, entertaining, visiting historical sites and, of course, college basketball.
