Palliative Care

When people are living with serious illness, they may experience pain and symptoms associated not only with the illness but curative treatments. Columbus Regional’s Palliative Care is specialized medical care focused on the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for patients and their loved ones.

Palliative care works in coordination with your providers to support your current treatment plan, to control disease symptoms such as pain, nausea, vomiting, breathing difficulties, fatigue, confusion, and/or depression. Palliative care typically supports patients living with heart disease, lung disease, cancer, renal failure, liver disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease and ALS.

Palliative care can

  • Relieve pain, symptoms, and stress.
  • Reduce hospitalizations and for those hospitalized, a shorter stay.
  • Help, support, and improve coordination of care.
  • Assist with discussions about goals of care.
  • Provide information and support on advance care planning.
  • Be provided with curative treatment.

This expert support for serious illness is available at our hospital, through telehealth and in your home.
