When you bring your child to Southeast Pediatrics, you’ll notice two entrances. One is for kids who are sick; the other for children who are there for a well-baby visit or check-up.
That’s the first sign that this pediatrics practice is a little different – and even a little revolutionary.
The big (3,000 square feet), bright space is welcoming to every child – from newborn to young adults as old as 21. Whether a child – baby, infant, tween, teen or young adult – has a runny nose, fever, aches and pains, rash or “homework-itis,” the two exceptional physicians and support staff are ready to listen and offer compassionate care and treatment.
Just as important as treating a sore throat, though, is helping a child stay healthy. Regular wellness visits are important – for a child’s health, for a family’s health and for the public health.
Well visits may include vaccinations, nutrition and fitness education, safety tips and an opportunity for parents to ask about any concerns they have – a child’s school performance, behavior, appetite, social skills and more.
Pediatrician Jugta Kahai, M.D., certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, is medical director of Southeast Pediatrics. She’s trained to treat chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes, ADHD, autism and more, but she’s also a strong proponent of good mental health in children. She feels mental health in pediatrics is too often overlooked and many times inadequately treated. Dr. Kahai is a passionate advocate for the importance of early intervention and treatment.
Kahai has been caring for underserved children in North Carolina for nearly 20 years. After completing her residency and fellowship in pediatric critical care at State University of New York at Buffalo, she came to Brunswick County and established one of the only specialized pediatric clinics in the area.
“We want to partner with parents to be advocates for their child’s mental, emotional and physical health,” she says.
Dr. Kahai and her staff can treat both acute and chronic conditions.
Dr Marc Yandle, currently seeing children in the hospital, will be joining Dr Kahai in the practice one day a week starting in May.
