Designed for the expectant mother and her support person in their third trimester, “Great Expectations” is an instructional childbirth class created by Columbus Regional Healthcare System Family Birthing Center staff to educate and empower women and their birthing partners.

“The interactive, lively classes will allow you to learn, connect with other expectant parents and have fun!” says Childbirth Educator Heather Nobles, RN.

Childbirth educators will answer your questions and teach you about the birth process. Education topics included in class are:

  • Managing pregnancy in the last trimester
  • Labor support
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Anesthesia options
  • The labor and birthing process
  • Body changes
  • Breastfeeding
  • Post-partem

“Because the birth of your child will be one of your most precious memories, you want to learn everything you can about your pregnancy, delivery, and the care of your newborn,” says Nobles.

The four-week series of classes also includes a class on breastfeeding taught by Lisa Garrell, RN, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. The class will cover the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as different breastfeeding techniques and positions. Attending prenatal breastfeeding class will help prepare you for a successful breastfeeding experience.

All of the classes are interactive, with open discussions. A new series of four classes begin the first Tuesday of each month. Classes are held from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Whether you are getting ready for the birth of your first child or are an experienced parent, the staff of the CRHS Family Birthing Center and the childbirth educators of “Great Expectations” will help you prepare for the birth of your child and teach you how to enjoy every moment of the experience. We encourage you to register in your first trimester.

Classes fill up quickly, so register early. Wear comfortable clothing. A light meal will be provided. Call 910-642-9331 for registration information.
