In keeping with its primary commitment to patient safety, and to help prevent the spread of viruses
such as the coronavirus disease 2019 and the flu, Columbus Regional Healthcare System is reminding
the community of their visitation guidelines that went into effect on January 10, 2020. The visitation
restrictions prohibit visitors under the age of 18 and anyone, regardless of age, with flu-like
symptoms.
With the exception of approved, limited situations, individuals under the age of 18 are not permitted
in the hospital unless they are a patient seeking medical care. In addition to restricting visits by those
under 18, CRHS is reminding anyone with flu-like symptoms to avoid visiting the hospital. Flu-like
symptoms include a fever greater than 100 degrees, a sore throat, coughing, diarrhea, vomiting, or
body aches.
“We know this policy continues to be an inconvenience to families of patients in the hospital,” said
John Young, Columbus Regional president, and CEO, “but it is imperative to help prevent the spread of
any virus, including the coronavirus that has now entered North Carolina. We must protect our
patients, visitors, staff, and community from accidental exposure to any virus. We apologize for any
inconvenience this continues to cause.”
The Limited Visitation policy will remain in effect until the threat of flu and coronavirus has
significantly decreased and the hospital can safely return to normal visitation.
The following are everyday preventive actions that can be used to prevent the spread of most viruses.
