The administration and staff at Columbus Regional Healthcare System have activated their Emergency Management Command Center in an effort to be ready for upcoming Hurricane Dorian. Plans are being made to care for the patients and to house the staff that will be at the hospital throughout the storm.

“Our first priority is always the safety of our patients and staff, and that is no different in a weather event like this”, said John Young, President and CEO. “I know we have the right people in place, and the resources needed, to take care of our community healthcare needs throughout the duration of the storm and the recovery afterwards.”

A restricted access plan will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. This is an additional effort to ensure the safety of all those in the facility. One visitor per patient will be allowed, and they are asked to sign in and out through the emergency room entrance. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis.

The CRHS emergency room will remain open throughout the storm to care for the emergent healthcare needs of our community.

Hospital outpatient services and the Columbus Regional Health Network practices will be open normal business hours on Wednesday, September 4th. CRHS will continue to evaluate weather conditions to determine any closures for Thursday, September 5th.

CRHS anticipates normal business hours on Friday, September 6th. Surgical cases scheduled for this week are currently under normal operations and will continue to be monitored. If you have any questions about your surgery, please contact your physician
office.

Any community members in need of special sheltering accommodations due to medical, physical, or mental conditions should contact the Columbus County Health Department at 910-640-6615. CRHS urges members of the community to remain at home, or at one of the area evacuation shelters, and avoid any unnecessary travel during the storm. In case of a medical emergency call 911.
