Columbus Regional Healthcare System was recently awarded a $50,000 grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation for use with their Think PINK Project, a rural breast cancer outreach program. The program is designed to provide access to education and early-detection breast cancer screenings to women in Columbus County.
Additionally, because of the grant, CRHS will hire a Breast Health Educator to provide education and work closely with the Donayre Cancer Care Center and its outreach efforts.
“We are grateful for the support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and are excited that these dollars will go to provide free mammograms to women who may not have had these life-saving screenings in the past,” Carla Hollis, CEO of Columbus Regional Healthcare System, said.
“We are also pleased that this is the first ever Komen grant awarded in this county.”
The goal of Think PINK Columbus will be to improve screening rates and reduce disparities of late-stage diagnoses and higher breast cancer mortality rates among women living in Columbus County through early detection education, screening mammograms and follow-up care.
Komen’s Triangle to the Coast Region provides funding for breast health services, education and outreach in a 29-county region of the state.
